Opening Ports--Communication Among Librarians

24/7 Reference allows librarians to IM each other via the software. This, we think, will offer a huge advantage so that librarians, MCLD and others, especially when serving the global desk, will allow librarians to communicate. Unfortunately, due to County restrictions, we are unable to open the ports that will allow us to do that. We hope that in the future, when we are on our own network we will be able to do that. Until then, though, we will continue to operate as is. Since we actually have not ever had IM working I know that it will make the service that much easier to offer once it is in place.
